Georgia vs. Czech Republic - prediction, team news, lineups

Preview

Two of the most consistent performers in European international futsal are set to go head-to-head when Georgia face Czech Republic in Tbilisi on Thursday November 17, 2022. Georgia have reached the knockout rounds of the last three editions of the UEFA Futsal EURO, while Czech Republic made the semi-finals in 2010 and 2022 and the last eight in 2016. Both nations will be looking to start their Group A campaign strongly ahead of tough assignments against Spain and Kazakhstan.

Georgia will be appearing in only their second Futsal EURO having qualified as hosts and reached the quarter-finals on their debut. They finished six points behind Kazakhstan in qualifying round Group 1 but lost only once against their rivals. Georgia did most of their damage at home, taking four points from Kazakhstan and hammering Slovenia 9-0 in their final match.

Czech Republic are certainly more experienced, having participated in the last three Futsal EUROs and have reached the quarter-finals twice and reached the semi-finals as recently as 2022. They qualified as Group 1 runners-up behind Spain, and they lost to Dutch giants Oranje in the play-offs before the tournament.

Team news

Georgia will be at full strength and coach Aleko Gaprindashvili has named an unchanged squad for the tournament from the one that secured qualification against Slovenia in June. Czech coach Tomáš Neumann has named a squad that is based around four survivors from the 2022 semi-final team: goalkeeper Adam Hirjak, Lukáš Rešetár, Michal Seidler and Matěj Slováček.

Georgia: Zviad Kupatadze, Archil Sebiskveradze, Irakli Todua, Vakhtang Jgerenaia, Giorgi Gabelaia Czech Republic: Adam Hirjak, Matěj Slováček, Michal Seidler, Lukáš Rešetár, Tomáš Koudelka
